My Story: From Running to Restoration
For years, I carried a deep desire to be a wife, but I was equipped with the world’s map for a spiritual journey. It was a map that proved vague, idealistic, and ultimately naive.
I believed “compatibility” meant a relationship free of conflict. So, when challenges arose, I saw them as a sign to exit—a decision I mistakenly labelled as strength. I never stayed long enough to hone the skills necessary for a healthy, lasting relationship. In a desperate effort to avoid pain, I was running from the very refining fire God was using to build something lasting within me.
The turning point came when I finally stopped running. I made the conscious choice to operate the biblical way within my marriage. I humbled myself, learning to listen to the Most High through my husband. I prayed for the strength to authentically honour him as the Bible instructs, in order to honour God.
I decided to fight through the hard times. This meant changing my misguided mentalities, replacing them with bible-based approaches, practicing patience, and committing to self-reflection. I worked to refine my behaviour, trusting that the Most High had placed me with this man for our mutual benefit and growth.
That decision to submit was not a surrender of my strength, but a powerful redirection of it.
And something miraculous began to happen. The leadership and responsibility that had always been within my husband began to flourish. As I stepped into my biblical role, he stepped into his. My genuine respect and love for him deepened in a way I didn’t think possible, allowing us to weather the frustrations and misunderstandings that had once threatened our very foundation.
Our marriage is not perfect—it is not all smooth sailing. But my personal growth, guided by the Most High’s grace and my husband’s patience, has contributed to much calmer waters. It is a journey we now navigate as a unified team.
